Stilopad vs Goodnotes: choose your workflow, not just your notebook cover

A notebook app can look perfect in a screenshot and still feel wrong halfway through a busy day. The useful question is not which one has the longest feature list. It is where you write, who you work with, and how easily you can take your work somewhere else.

Choose Goodnotes if its established study tools are the reason you are shopping. Try Stilopad if a customizable planner and live shared page are your starting point. Keep the original library until you have imported, edited, exported and reopened a representative notebook.

Goodnotes is the sensible shortlist choice when its study workflow already fits your courses or team. Its official plan documentation is also a reminder to read beyond the headline price: platform availability and plan entitlements matter more than an old review of a different version.

Our earlier review sample included older reports about import friction, battery use and flattened exports. Those reports are reasons to test your own documents, not proof of a current Goodnotes defect. In any notebook app, an ordinary PDF export and an editable notebook backup serve different purposes.

Research reference: store listing and selected reviews. Our September 5, 2026 review sample was small and non-random; some reports date back several years. Store pages change which reviews they display.

Stilopad offers a Lite web editor, optional Google Drive synchronization and an editable .stlpd archive alongside presentation exports. Its archive checks reject missing embedded assets rather than knowingly producing an incomplete backup. These safeguards do not recover originals that were already lost, and large-file reliability is still being tested.

Try one PDF with internal links, handwriting and images. Open the exported copy on the other device you actually use; inspect links and editable objects separately.

Work with a duplicate. Keep both the original source and an independent export until the restored copy has passed your checks. Review reports help you choose what to test; they cannot establish which app is safest for everyone.
